Preparing for Winter Weather
12/21/2021 (Permalink)
Today is the official start of winter here in the northeast. Winter storms can be intense and devastating to our local communities. Like any other disaster that may strike, a preparedness plan goes a long way in preventing damage to your property. Be sure you have a plan in place and communicate it with your family and friends.
You will want to weatherproof your home to protect it from cold temperatures. Insulate water lines that run along exterior walls so you do not get frozen pipes. Weatherstrip doors and windows where needed. Check to see if any walls need insulation, as well as the attic. If you do not have storm or thermal-pane windows, cover them with plastic from the inside. Repair any leaks in your roof and cut away tree branches that are close to your home. Have your chimney cleaned and inspected if you use a fireplace or woodstove. Check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors as well as fire extinguishers. Have your furnace inspected by a qualified technician. If you do experience storm damage or burst pipes give us a call and we can restore your property immediately to keep your family safe during the winter months.
